LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT SCHOOL?

Step-By-Step  is located at  1814 14th Street  in Santa Monica,  CA. Our campus is a stand alone two story building with 9,000 square feet of fun, exploration and adventure. Our classrooms are located in our upper atrium and our extraordinary play facilities are located below. We have three large indoor play facilities.  The first  space, The Arena is designed for large art projects, imaginative play, fine motor and balance . It has a  bike, scooter and wagon  track. The  second giant play facility,  The Playground  is an OT Certified Gym designed to work the larger muscle groups. It has a rock wall, trampoline (for up to 7 kids),  swing sets, slides, a ball pit, a net bridge and many  other endurance and coordination enhancing items. It is here where we practice our morning yoga and run our afternoon obstacle courses. The third space is a dance room complete with an XBox Kinect Dance Center.

 

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • 2, 3 or 5 day/week programs for children (and parents) 3 months – 6 years. (Program options vary)
  • Year round school with open enrollment based on availability and application date (see Enrollment for details)
  • Facilitation and family support with toilet training. Children DO NOT have to be toilet trained.
  • Age and developmentally appropriate curriculum and and child centered learning activities.
  • Student teacher ratios 3:1 (Child:Adult) under 3 and 4:1 for children 3-6 years. (Enrichment ratios may vary)
  • Early Childhood Development Specialists in each class.
  • Highly skilled faculty that receive continuing education and training.
  • All staff are certified in EDU-Play techniques which include Positive Behavior Support training and Crisis Prevention Intervention Certified (CPI). Staff are also trained in PEC’S (Picture Exchange Communication  Schedule), Sign language and visual scheduling.
  • Whole Child education curriculum and Emotional Literacy Program.
  • In-class Speech and Occupational Therapy.
  • First Aid and CPR certified faculty.
  • Opportunities for parents to become involved in their child’s education and participate in off campus activities with children.
  • Opportunities and facilities for parents to view classrooms in action.
  • State of the art security features throughout building.  Secure entrances and exits.

STEP by STEP faculty and staff provide the framework for inspiration and development with age and developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum. With low student teacher ratios our staff is better able to decipher your child’s learning style and develop and individualize curriculum.  Lesson and activity plans are based on early childhood learning standards, physical and arts integration.  Areas of concentration include all of the Developmental Domains,  Cognitive, Fine/Gross Motor, Sensory, Language and Social Emotion which are built into each daily lesson plan.  The Step by Step, EDU Play team includes:  Certified teachers, Early Education Specialists, Developmental psychologists, marriage & family therapists, social workers, Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapists and Behavioral  Interventionists.
