This class is three hours long and meets the individual needs of each child at their developmental level. This class focuses on developing self-help skills, increasing sustained attention, refining fine & gross motor skills, increasing social-emotional awareness and expanding communication skills. The classroom becomes like a second home to the children where they learn to explore, take pride in and experience responsibilities in their own environment. There are more transitions during the day, “circle-time” expectations are longer, and responsibilities are increased. Children begin to engage in functional group activities, such as, participating in obstacle courses, passing out cups at snack-time and beginning to dramatize and socialize with their peers. In this class the interventionists are aware that some children will no longer qualify for intervention services, and this is often times a child’s last opportunity for intensive intervention in a small group setting. As a result, the interventionists work closely with parents and caregivers to establish reasonable expectations for future school programs. They encourage parents to watch the intervention provided by the staff upstairs in the parent room (on the closed-circuit monitoring system) and to meet with staff daily after classes. This class is designed to prepare children for their future in a variety of preschool programs. Teachers provide intervention for all of the children based on their individual developmental profile in a small group setting (1:4 ratio). The maximum amount of children in a class is 8 at a time with 3 adult facilitators. This ratio allows for an ample amount of personal attention to be given to each child, while still enabling them to socialize and form vital relationships with their peers. This class is 3 hours long, 8:00-11:00 a.m. and is available 5 days a week. We highly recommend a minimum of two days.
