The Ducks (14-20 months)

This class is designed to ease the separation of child and caregiver. Caregivers and teachers work together to develop a transition plan. Little ones will learn to play and explore on their own! Once parents successfully transition out of the classroom, they are welcomed and encouraged to stay the duration of the class upstairs in the parent room. Upstairs they can watch their child play and engage with their peers on a closed-circuit monitoring system (a camera is present in each classroom). The teachers are aware that they parents are watching and are therefore constantly modeling appropriate and successful intervention techniques for the parents to follow. In this class children are also introduced to independent “circle-time” and “snack-time” (2 basic fundamentals of any school experience); as well as a distinct focus on the introduction of body awareness, which enables them to develop a strong sense of self and an identity all their own. Children begin to engage in parallel play with their peers and experience a variety of situations & emotions. It’s the right beginning to a lifetime of classroom experiences to come. Teachers provide individualized support for all of the children based on their individual developmental profile in a small group setting (1:3 ratio). The maximum amount of children in a class is 6 at a time with 2 adult facilitators. This ratio allows for an ample amount of personal attention to be given to each child, while still enabling them to socialize and form vital relationships with their peers. This class is three hours long 8:00-11:00 and is available 5 days a week. We highly recommend a minimum of two days.
